Dedicated to one of our own. Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Charles "Luke" Milam was one of the original MARSOC Special Operations Independent Duty Corpsman (SOIDC), joining the command in 2006 during its formation and deploying repeatedly in support of combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Luke was a warrior in every sense of the word. During a deployment to Iraq, he was wounded in action while on a combat patrol and was awarded the Bronze Star with Combat "V" for valor. He was later recognized as MARSOC Operator of the Year and, following his death, MARSOC Medic of the Year. On 25 September 2007, while serving with Golf Company, 2nd Marine Special Operations Battalion in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, Luke was killed in action while bringing the fight to the enemy. He was 26 years old.
The Luke Milam Memorial Golf Tournament exists to honor a man who lived a life of service, sacrifice, and commitment to his teammates. It is an opportunity for our community to come together, remember one of our own, reconnect with old friends, support the next generation of SOIDCs, and raise funds that directly benefit SOIDCs and their families. Luke died doing exactly what he had volunteered to do—taking the fight to the enemy alongside the men he served with. We gather each year not only to remember his sacrifice, but to ensure his legacy continues to support the community he helped build.
